When you absolutely have to bring your companion animal to the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital’s emergency services here are a few things you should know.

• The hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a week for emergencies
• You can reach the hospital by calling 515-294-4900 and if you need to FAX records send to 515-294-7520
• All emergency cases are evaluated by the clinician on emergency duty that day
• Your companion animal will be transferred to the appropriate specialty service the following work day
• All fees associated with your emergency visit will be discussed during her initial phone call or visit
• If hospitalization is required, the emergency duty clinician will discuss the initial cost with you, although the cost estimate may change when the animal is transferred. A deposit of 100 percent of the low end of the estimate is required at the time of admission
