Dr. Phillip Gauger was honored with the 2019 Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence during a luncheon at the college's annual Research Day.
Gauger is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in swine viral diseases. He has developed a reputation of quickly identifying and advancing knowledge on emerging viral diseases of pigs (porcine epidemic diarrhea virus and Senecavirus; and poultry (Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza). The author or co-author of 108 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, Gauger consistently has between five and ten active research grants. He is also a frequent speaker, giving between 20 to 40 presentations each year.
Gauger is an associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine. He joined the Iowa State faculty in 2012. He earned his BS, DVM, MS, and PhD from Iowa State.
